Emergency repairs to increase the factor of safety for Dover Dam included the installation and prestressing of 17 each high capacity bar anchors. Utilizing existing drain holes inside the gallery of the dam, Brayman drilled through the drains and into the bedrock. Given the limited headroom and workspace inside the gallery, each 3in diameter bar anchor had to be coupled together as they were lowered into the hole. Each bar anchor was tested and lock-off procedures were accelerated to provide the necessary “pool” capacity within days of a significant rainfall event.
