This project included the installation of 724 drilled caissons to support the elevated guideways and stations for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in Fairfax County, VA. The drilled caissons range in diameter from two (2) to 10ft. Brayman was contracted to furnish and install reinforcing cages and concrete, maintain complete quality control for all services and maintain/dispose of drill spoils.
This project involved working in congested areas and had significant environmental controls in place so as not to harm the environment of the area. All shafts were MiniSID inspected for cleanliness and CSL tested for concrete integrity. Drilling methods included both conventional temporary casing and drilling slurry. Brayman performed eight (8) static load tests, utilizing Oesterberg load cells, and five (5) statnamic load tests over the course of the project.
Brayman completed the scope of work within 18 months, six months ahead of schedule, working over 120,000 man hours with no recordable incidents.
