The initial phase in the construction of the North Shore Connector project required Brayman to install nine (9) caissons used in the underpinning of four (4) existing piers on the ramps between the Ft. Duquesne Bridge (I-279) and PA Route 65. As part of the contract, two (2) Osterberg Cell load tests were also conducted. The challenge on this project, while working under the active ramp in headroom of 32ft, was the drilling and complete installation of the 84in over 78in shafts to a depth of 38ft. This was accomplished with modified AF220 drilling equipment.
