This project is for the replacement of an existing four-span truss bridge over the Mahoning River and CSX Railroad. The new bridge is approximately 525ft long, with two piers located in the water, on caisson foundations, and one pier and abutments on pre-drilled bearing piles. Work includes the construction of two cofferdams at the piers and soldier pile walls at each abutment.
Additionally, this project includes the replacement of an existing concrete bridge with a three-span, prestressed concrete bulb, T-beam bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad, just west of the larger structure. The new bridge is approximately 193ft long with piers and abutments on steel tapered pipe piles.
Other important aspects of this project include the design and construction of temporary bridges to maintain traffic during construction, approach roadway reconstruction, drainage and guide rail work, as well as explosive demolition work of the main truss over the Mahoning River.
