The original design of this project called for the complete rehabilitation of the existing nine span, multi-type, steel bridge and the complete removal and replacement of the adjacent three span overpass bridge.

Brayman teamed with the design firm L. Robert Kimbal to propose an alternate design that constructed a new steel girder bridge on an adjusted alignment, which would allow for the complete elimination of both the nine and three span structures with no impact to traffic during the construction phase.

Our team utilized Brayman’s specialty foundation expertise to solve various site geotechnical challenges presented by designing different sub foundation types (i.e. caisson, micropiles, steel H-piles) incorporated in the substructure elements of the new eight span steel plate girder bridge.
