Subcontracted by G. M. McCrossin, Inc., Brayman provided design/build services to construct two circular cell cofferdams for the limestone holding structures and adjoining conveyor trenches, allowing for construction of the structures in a dry environment. Brayman incorporated the use of PZC-18 sheet piles in the design and construction of each of these structures. The diameters were 108.5ft for the limestone unloading building and 60.75ft for the limestone reclaim building with excavations averaging 40ft deep. Piling was secured utilizing vertical tie-down anchors installed to counter any uplift potential. Cast-in-place concrete compression rings were also placed to provide an internal bracing system. Grouting was used to control underground water leakage.
