Cadiz Ohio Slope Repair

This Cadiz Ohio slope repair project was a crucial endeavor aimed at preventing further strain on an adjacent pipeline. The project began with detailed site preparation, which involved creating a working bench for soil nail installation and support for inclinometer drilling by a third party. After the area was prepared, Brayman crews focused on the installation of 145 soil nails, each 20 feet long and with hole diameters ranging from 5 to 6 inches, designed to bond securely into the rock. As drilling progressed, these nails were grouted using tremie tubes to ensure a solid bond with the slope material, and performance testing was conducted using a calibrated hydraulic ram and pump setup to confirm that the installation met the rigorous design requirements.

Following successful testing, the exposed tail lengths of the bars were cut near grade, paving the way for the installation of geogrid mesh. This mesh was carefully rolled out along the excavated bench, aligned with the nails, and fastened with hog rings using air tools. Each soil nail was then capped with spiked anchor plates, which were locked down with beveled washers and hex nuts, ensuring the mesh was firmly anchored to the slope.

The project did not come without its challenges. The steep and uneven hillside, combined with the muddy conditions from frequent spring rains, made the worksite slippery and hazardous.

Following the installation of the geogrid mesh, the treated area was backfilled to restore the slope to its original grade prior to any excavation or soil nail work. To promote the regrowth of grass and return the landscape to its natural state, fertilizer and seeds were applied. With the project nearing completion, the job site was thoroughly cleaned, and Brayman Construction successfully demobilized. Through careful planning and precise execution, the this slope repair project effectively stabilized the hillside, securing the adjacent pipeline and ensuring long-term slope stability.
