Tom Williams Family Bridge +3 Design-Build
Tom Williams Family Bridge +3 Design-Build
Brayman Construction was awarded a $20.5 million design-build Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) contract for a multi-bridge project consisting of 8 bridge deck replacements and 2 specialized overlays along the busy I-77 and I-64 corridor in Charleston, WV that had to be completed in an extremely short timeframe. Brayman Construction utilized multiple ABC techniques to successfully complete the project ahead of schedule. Brayman selected CDM Smith’s office in Charleston to provide the design services for this project.
The project was broken into distinct sections. The design of all work lasted approximately 8 months, and then construction, which lasted less than one construction season. The Tom Williams Section of the work included 6 bridge deck replacements and 2 bridge overlays along I-79/I-77 in the northbound and southbound lanes. The use of lane crossovers on the interstates allowed Brayman to complete the work ahead of schedule. The contract allowed for the completion of the project in 100 calendar days, and we completed it in 91 calendar days. The Danner Section of the work included 2 bridge deck replacements. That contract allowed 60 calendar days for completion of this section of the project work, and the work was completed in 32 calendar days. Additional work on the project included the replacement of underpass lighting and complete structural steel superstructure repairs and painting.
