James Rumsey Bridge
Brayman was contracted to replace an existing steel deck truss bridge spanning the Potomac River between West Virginia and Maryland. Erected just upstream of the old bridge, the new 1096lf structure is a three-span steel haunch plate girder design carrying two lanes of traffic plus an eight-foot wide sidewalk. The bridge comprises 44-each girders ranging from 14’ to 18’ deep, and up to 125’ long, with weights up to 75-Ton each. The team collaborated with a variety of stakeholders to successfully complete this project, including the Maryland State Highway Administration, National Park Service, Shepherd University, Bavarian Inn, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Maryland Department of Environment, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Historic Trust, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and West Virginia Division of Highways.
