SR 403

SR 403
SR 403, located outside of Johnstown in Somerset County, PA, has experienced recurring road slips over the years. While temporary repairs were made to stabilize the roadway, these solutions only offered short-term relief. Brayman Construction Corporation was responsible for executing critical aspects of a beam and anchor wall installation. Brayman's scope of work included precision drilling to accommodate the placement of 51 double beams, securing each beam with a 5-strand anchor approximately 60’ in length, designed to hold the beams in place and provide the necessary lateral support for the road.
Originally scheduled to begin in July 2024, the project timeline was expedited due to an unexpected road failure in April 2024. This significant slip led to a full road closure, necessitating an accelerated start to the construction work to ensure the safety and reliability of this route.
The installation of the new anchored beam and concrete lagged soldier pile wall provides a long-term solution, ensuring the stability of SR 403 and the safety of its users.
