Cheat River Bridge
Cheat River Bridge
Brayman Construction was contracted by Triton Construction to deliver the foundational elements of the Cheat River Bridge, a key project in the nearly $3 billion WVDOH Corridor H program. This 3,300-foot-long, four-lane river crossing, one of the longest bridges in West Virginia, is a critical infrastructure link connecting I-79 in Weston, WV, to I-81 in Strasburg, VA.
Brayman’s scope of work included drilling, assisting in setting the cage, furnishing, and installing over 2,500 cubic yards of concrete. Our team installed 33 large-diameter drilled shafts at four pier locations, including 30 each 84” to 114” diameter, reaching depths up to nearly 100 feet into hard rock. Caissons supported four of the nine piers, with the drilled shafts serving as critical load-bearing elements for the structure. Three of the piers had ten caissons, each with 84” diameter soil drilling over 78” diameter rock sockets up to 45’ deep, and the fourth pier had three caissons with 95’ deep rock socket at 114” diameter.
Brayman used CZM EK250 and Bauer BG45 drill rigs, outfitted with custom tooling, to efficiently penetrate nearly 2,500 cubic yards of hard rock. Comprehensive quality control measures ensured the accuracy of drilling, socket formation, and concrete placement.
